Looking for extra math practice or enrichment?
Strengthening Math Advancement by Reinforcing Teaching (SMART Hephzibah) offers weekly supplemental instruction in math over Zoom outside school hours for students in 1st through 5th grades, run by teachers in Oak Park’s District 97. The program offers both “regular” and “advanced” classes:
-
Regular class: This will be targeted at students up to the 75th percentile. The sessions will be a supplement to in-school instruction, focusing on strengthening students’ knowledge through practice problems, math games, etc.
-
Advanced class: This will be targeted at students above the 75th percentile. The sessions will focus on material beyond what is in the standard curriculum for that grade level and/or more challenging problems than are usually done in class.
Parents can choose which class is most suitable for their children, so the MAP scores are guidelines, not requirements.
The weekly math sessions of this program will be for seven weeks between April 10 and May 26. The cost is $84 for the seven sessions ($12 per session), and students who need scholarships to attend will be able to participate without cost, so the program is accessible to all students.
Each class is once a week, and there are two choices for times:
-
1st grade (parent/child): Wednesdays 5:15-6:00pm
-
2nd grade (regular): Wednesdays 5:15-6:15pm
-
2nd grade (advanced): Thursdays 5:00-6:00pm
-
3rd grade (regular): Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm
-
3rd grade (advanced): Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm
-
4th grade (regular): Tuesdays 5:00-6:00pm
-
4th grade (advanced): Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm
-
5th grade (regular): Wednesdays 6:30-7:30pm
